Reviews of Top Hand Ranch

horse-drawn Carriages and Wagons

I have owned and been around horses for 50 year's. After reading a few people being negative on the treatment of these beautiful horses. I have spent years watching and enjoying these horses with their team's. I have spent years with my nieces and nephews. Now my grandkids going down there to see the horse's. They allow the kids to pet them and they do get water break constantly as well as shade. We know the resting places and always went there to hang out with the horse's during their rest breaks. As a long time horse owner I would be the first to complain if they weren't being treated better than anyone there. It is harder on these horses having protesters yelling at them and waving signs in their faces!!

Top Hand Ranch is a holiday tradition for my family at Christmas time. We take a carriage ride through the Fab 40's to see the lights and it's an amazing experience. We met with the driver at a corner store close to the fab 40's. They had carriages coming in and out picking up and dropping off passengers. The horses are in excellent condition and you can tell they are well cared for. The carriage ride was amazing. We strolled up and down each street enjoying the sights and listening to the carriage bells as we went along. The driver was so nice and made great conversation during our trip. We never felt like our ride was being rushed and felt that we were going at a leisurely pace. The carriage itself was nice and big and the perfect size for four adults and my 1 year old toddler. This year will be our second trip to the Fab 40's and we can't wait. This is a new annual tradition that my whole family looks forward to. I highly recommend Top Hand Ranch especially for seeing the Christmas lights.

Dianna and her awesome crew do rides in the Fab 40's at Christmas time to see the Christmas lights. OMG it was so amazing- we really enjoyed the slower pace to be able to see all of the lights on such beautiful houses. Our driver was friendly and skillful, and we had an amazing time...something about the clippy clop of horse hooves in chilly weather, makes everything seem right for the holiday! If you're lucky enough to reserve one of these carriages, you won't be disappointed.

Can’t say enough wonderful things about Top Hand Ranch. We hired them for our son & daughter in-law’s wedding. They arrived on time & were impeccably turned out. Spotless white horse & carriage & the driver was dressed perfectly. They even gave carriage rides after the ceremony & the children were delighted. I highly recommend Top Hand Ranch!

Everything was perfect! The main gal was so helpful and helped to ensure everything was as we wanted. She called with questions, arrived right where we asked right on time, changed carriage colors, let us include her in pictures to make the photos, she was awesome. The price is spot on, they were the most affordable and best. We are so happy we chose Top Hand Ranch for our carriage. Thank you for being the perfect ending to our wedding ceremony, it was truely a fairytale wedding. Recomend to all!!

My husband and I booked Top Hand Ranch for our wedding at it was one of the highlights of our wedding ceremony! My father passed away last year, and I felt that since I had nobody walking me down the aisle, that I deserved a grand entrance! We contacted Dianna about a year and a half before our wedding, and we paid upfront. The horse and carriage were perfect! Our wedding was 45 minutes north of Sacramento, and they showed up early, and stayed after our allotted time. The horse's name was Jennifer, and she was awesome! From the ceremony site to the reception site, it was about a mile down the road... about a 15 minute horse and carriage ride. There were cars speeding around her and dogs that came up to her along the ride, and she wasn't phased by either! And she was great with everyone! I would definitely use Top Hand Ranch again!

We did the Christmas Light tour through the fab 40's last night on the 6 seater covered wagon and it was AMAZING! Our guide was very pleasant, beautiful horses, gorgeous wagon and lights. Our kids 3, 4, 4, and 6 really loved it.

We hired Top Hand Ranch for three covered wagons to take 25 elementary students and parents on a ride around downtown Sacramento. Everything went smoothly, professionally, and on-time. The kids really enjoyed the ride as part of their studies on California history, statehood, and the Gold Rush. It was perfect!

We use this company yesterday for a carriage ride from old town down to the state capital and back. Was a lovely experience. Horses are well behaved and appear to be very well taken care of. Our driver was pleasant and just let us enjoy our tour. A must do if your in the area.

The horses and carriages are beautiful and the staff & driver were great to work with! The rates are very affordable and I was surprised to discover that they offer carriage rides throughout Sacramento (not just Old Sac).

First, let me say that I am well acquainted with the Newborn family, which includes horses, dogs and daughter, too. Like most intelligent animal owners, their animals come first-- in healthcare, nutrition, not the least of which is genuine love and the joy both horses and family members get from working together. Nothing makes a draft horse (and his handler) more proud than to perform well, whether pulling a carriage, pulling a piece of equipment, or performing in the arena. Sit on the sidelines one time at Draft Horse Classic. When those horses enter the arena, they arch their necks, pick up their feet, and when the music starts, they are right in step. That isn't training, that is natural response to something that gives them joy and excitement. Don't take that away from these proud giants... they deserve that, and more. And, further, don't judge the people who work with them daily, who care for and love them, just because you are emotional and ill-informed. I encourage you to educate yourself about the working horse, and I challenge you to be honest and objective in your next statement, without trying to ruin lives, both animal and human, by your misguided judgments. Horses and humans work together, for mutual livelihood, as a team, not master and slave. Straighten out your facts and let us hear from you again. Bless us all, and God bless the Gentle Giants who grace our lives with their presence!

My daughter and her father arrived at her wedding in a carriage drawn by Stash and Dash. Our guests gasped when they came around the corner ... that's when my tears started. That is a moment I will remember forever. Thank you Top Hand Ranch - job well done!

We enjoyed our horse and carriage ride through Old Town Sacramento. The horses are so beautiful. We enjoyed the scenic carriage ride; it was in November so it was fun to see as people were putting up holiday decorations. Price for the horse and carriage ride is reasonable.
-- Mini, 2015 (TripAdvisor)

The ride is a bargain. Relax, enjoy the ride and the view. Cheaper than any limo! Our driver was very courteous, even if it did take a bit of time while the driver was grooming the horses and adjusting their harness in between changing passengers. It's amazing to see how well mannered the horses are with all of the distractions. But it looks like these guys know what they are doing.
